Palace Station - An Old Stage Coach Station

Palace Station 04/20/2021

We heard about this place from a friend, and since we had not been up that way in years we decided to take a little trip up to Prescott.

We picked up Senator Highway (the term highway is a little misleading) and bounced along for a while until we found Palace Station.

The station is the oldest examples of pioneer cabins in Arizona, built in 1874. It served as the stage depot, bar, and social gathering place in Palace, one of many mining towns.

Today it is part of the Forest Service. You can look, but not go in.

A lot of the highway looks like this. Nice, quiet, and great scenery.

Then there are these parts. Some areas are in better shape than others.

After a few hours we made it to the station. Yes, only 15 miles but at 2 to 5 mph it takes a while

The station has had some renovation and maintenance, but only as needed

The area is quite nice. We were alone.

There's a helicopter pad here, a boy scout project. We assume it is for the Forrest Service use.

Another 2 hours to Mayer where we pick up pavement and head homel
